Paula Elgar is a Registered Prescribing Pharmacist with more than 20 years of clinical experience. She is also a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner (MSCP)—a credential awarded by an internationally recognized leader in menopause education and research—and a member of the Menopause Society.

Paula joins the MAUD Medical Clinic team to deliver a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach to menopause care. Her clinical philosophy emphasizes evidence-based medicine, adherence to Canadian Menopause Society and Menopause Society guidelines, patient education, and long-term therapeutic relationships. With a strong passion for women’s health, Paula focuses on helping women feel informed, confident, and empowered in their health decisions—supporting not only symptom relief, but overall quality of life.

What Is Menopause Hormone Therapy?

Menopause Hormone Therapy (MHT) is an evidence-based treatment used to manage symptoms of perimenopause and menopause by replacing hormones—most commonly estrogen, with or without progesterone—that naturally decline during this life stage. MHT includes bio-identical hormone therapy, meaning hormones that are chemically identical to those produced by the human body.

At MAUD Medical Clinic, MHT is carefully individualized based on each woman’s symptoms, medical history, and personal health goals. For women who cannot or choose not to use hormone therapy, the program also offers evidence-based non-hormonal options, including lifestyle strategies and non-hormonal medications—ensuring comprehensive, personalized menopause care.

Complementary to Public Healthcare

MAUD Medical Clinic’s MHT service is private and operates as a separate program from publicly funded physician services. Patients may continue to access Alberta Health Services–covered menopause care through referral from their family physician. All physician services at MAUD Medical Clinic remain publicly funded.
