Maria Wu is an award-winning healthcare entrepreneur, women’s health advocate, and community leader based in Calgary, Alberta. She is the recipient of the prestigious Governor General Of Canada Awards in Commemoration of the Persons Case, recognized for her contributions to advancing women's health and healthcare accessibility through the creation of MAUD Medical Clinic.

Maria is the President of the We Are MAUD Foundation, where she works to improve access to healthcare and reduce barriers to care. She is a partner at Velocity Injury Medical Clinic and Bloom Institute for Mental Health & Wellness, organizations focused on rehabilitation, mental health, and wellness services across Alberta.

In addition, Maria serves as the Alberta Community Liaison for HPV Global Action, supporting public education and advocacy initiatives aimed at preventing HPV-related cancers and improving health outcomes for all Canadians.

Medical Doctors

Dr. Heydari obtained her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Alberta and returned to Calgary to complete her residency, specializing in Family Medicine.
She is a member of the North American Menopause Society (NAMS) and is a NAMS certified Menopause Practitioner (NCMP).
Patients seek her expertise in contraceptive counselling, IUD insertion/management, menstrual disorders, menopause management (including medical hormone therapy and non-hormonal options), sexual health, early prenatal care. Dr.Heydari practices shared decision making and strives to provide patient education. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking new recipes with her husband and spending time with family.

Dr. Christine Yurkowski is a dedicated physician at MAUD Medical Clinic, specializing in contraceptive counselling, IUD care, and Nexplanon insertions. With a warm and calming presence, she creates a safe, respectful space where patients feel supported in making informed choices about their reproductive health.
Dr. Yurkowski offers expert guidance on all contraceptive options, with a focus on long-acting reversible methods like IUDs and Nexplanon. She is known for her trauma-informed approach and ability to walk patients through procedures with clarity, compassion, and care.
At MAUD, she is part of a team committed to autonomy, accessibility, and dignity in women’s healthcare. Her patients often describe her as gentle, reassuring, and deeply respectful of individual needs and preferences - whether they're exploring contraception for the first time or revisiting their options at different life stages.

Dr. Mansoor completed her MD at the University of Saskatchewan before moving to Calgary where she trained to become a Family Doctor. She is passionate about delivering equitable, accessible, and inclusive health care to all people of all backgrounds. Her interests include, but are not limited to, providing sexual health counselling and care, management for issues related to the menstrual cycle, contraceptive advice and counselling, IUD removals/insertions, PAP smears, and post menopausal symptom management. When she’s not working, Dr. Mansoor likes to read and escape in the pages of a good book, try new recipes, and is always down for a games night with family and friends!

Dr. Ma is a family physician who takes a holistic, compassionate approach to women’s health, integrating medical and psychological care to support the whole person - body, mind, and heart.
She completed her medical degree at the University of British Columbia and her Family Medicine residency at the University of Calgary. Drawing on her background in Psychology, Physiology, and Nutrition, Dr. Ma helps patients navigate menstrual and reproductive health, contraception including IUD care, Pap smears, sexual health and STI testing, and prenatal support.
A diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine for weight management, Dr. Ma also has advanced training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness-Based interventions (MBSR, MB-EAT).
Dr. Ma has a particular interest in Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS, formerly PCOS), where she integrates her expertise in weight management, metabolic health, women’s health, and mental health to provide thoughtful, whole-person care. She is passionate about helping women feel more connected, confident, and empowered in their health journey.

Dr. Shymansky earned her medical degree from the University of Calgary and subsequently completed two years of Obstetrics and Gynaecology residency prior to transitioning into Family Medicine. Dr. Shymansky’s areas of interest include contraception counselling, IUD insertion, abnormal uterine bleeding and prenatal care. Dr. Shymansky is dedicated to promoting women's health and educating patients, prioritizing open communication and a supportive environment for women of all ages. In her free time, she finds enjoyment in reading, traveling, and discovering new culinary experiences at restaurants.

Allied Health

Paula Elgar is a Registered Prescribing Pharmacist with over 20 years of clinical experience and a strong focus on women’s health.
She is a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner (MSCP) and an active member of The Menopause Society, providing evidence-based, personalized menopause care, including bio-identical hormone therapy.
Paula is passionate about building long-term therapeutic relationships and helping women feel informed, confident, and empowered in their health decisions. Known for her warm, approachable style and attentive listening, she creates a supportive space where patients feel heard and understood. Her goal is to improve not only symptom relief, but overall quality of life—so women can feel their best and truly thrive during midlife.

Torri Barnes, Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist , Pessary Care, EMSELLA By MAUD

Torri graduated with a Master of Science in Physiotherapy from the University of Alberta, after completing a Bachelor of Kinesiology with Honours at the University of Calgary. The first few years of her career were spent with a mentor, focusing primarily on patients with on-going hip pain. In this population, Torri noted a large portion of her patients describing co-existing pelvic issues. Torri then completed post-graduate education in Pelvic Health and IMS (dry needling), registered through the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.
Torri is passionate about the hip and pelvic floor, and strongly believes in evidence-based exercise prescription and education throughout the rehabilitation process. Her focus is to promote health and wellness through injury prevention, rehabilitation and exercise education.
Her areas of focus include pre-post natal health, C section recovery, diastasis recti, activity throughout pregnancy, return to activity postnatally, pelvic organ prolapse, incontinence, pessary fitting, Pessary cleaning, groin pain, labral tears and hip pain.

Betty is a dedicated pelvic floor physiotherapist committed to providing compassionate care to individuals of all genders. With a deep passion for helping those experiencing pelvic pain, incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and more, Betty strives to empower patients on their journey to wellness.
Driven by a love for education and a desire to make a meaningful difference, Betty takes a patient-centred approach to treatment, recognizing the unique needs and experiences of each individual. As a Physiotherapist with an interest in women’s health, I enjoy working with a diverse clientele of all ages and believe in the body’s ability to heal through mindful movement.
I graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, and later obtained a Masters’ Degree in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy practice (2012) from Sheffield Hallam University in the United Kingdom.
As a firm believer in lifelong learning, I have 19 years experience (from Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and Canada) in women’s health, musculoskeletal and geriatric practice which has influenced my biopsychosocial approach to the management of various conditions. I place a high value on the therapeutic relationship with my clients and my treatment approach is a mix of hands-on, exercise prescription, and client education to name a few.
I love spending my free time reading books on various subjects from the history of civilization to mindfulness and the power of positive thinking. I have also recently developed a love for Yoga and meditation.

Mariana Moraes is a dedicated physiotherapist from Brazil, with a strong focus on Pelvic Floor Dysfunctions. She earned her Bachelor's degree in 2014 and immediately pursued specialized training, completing a two-year postgraduate program in Women's Health, Men's Health, and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction in Brazil. She further expanded her expertise with additional postgraduate courses in Canada.
Mariana believes that active listening is key to understanding her patients' unique needs, which allows her to conduct thorough assessments and identify the root causes of their dysfunctions. She then develops personalized treatment plans that integrate exercise, education, modalities, and hands-on techniques. Her approach is centered around empowering patients to take control of their health and achieve their individual goals.
To provide the best care, Mariana is committed to continuous professional development, regularly attending education courses and staying updated on the latest research. Fluent in both English and Portuguese, she also offers treatment to Portuguese-speaking immigrants, ensuring they feel comfortable communicating in their native language throughout the process.

Hilary McDermott - Pessary Fitting & Care
With a wealth of experience in pelvic floor physiotherapy, Hilary has dedicated her career to helping individuals navigate the complexities of pelvic health. Over the years, she has had the privilege of supporting clients through various stages of life, from pregnancy to postpartum and beyond.

Julie Munch is an experienced Occupational Therapist with a special interest in sexuality and sexual function. She supports oncology patients to regain pleasure.

Her academic background is backed by extensive hands-on experience in physiotherapy, chiropractic care, osteopathy, athletic therapy, massage therapy, and strength and conditioning.
A lifelong athlete, Josie brings over 20 years of competitive soccer experience—including varsity and premier league play—to her practice. This athletic foundation, along with global travel and cross-cultural learning, shapes her holistic approach to movement, injury prevention, and rehabilitation.

Aarzo is a graduate of the University of Calgary, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. During her studies, she completed an Honours thesis focused on women’s health, an area that sparked a deep and lasting passion. Her academic work explored key issues in female wellness, laying the groundwork for her continued commitment to improving women's health outcomes.
Driven by this passion, Aarzo joined Maud Medical as a Kinesiologist and EMSELLA Consultant. In her role, she supports women in strengthening pelvic floor health and overall well-being through evidence-based care and non-invasive technology. She is dedicated to creating a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for every client she works with.
Aarzo believes that accessible, informed, and compassionate care is the foundation of better health, and she’s proud to be part of a team that prioritizes just that.

Danielle is a Certified Holistic Nutrition Consultant or CHN/CHNC She obtained her certification through the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition (CSNN) and graduated with a certificate of merit. Danielle is passionate about all things health and wellness and brings that passion into her practice. She has built her business on the belief that when we feel our best, we look our best and that beauty starts from within, naming it Mooi-the Dutch translation of beauty/beautiful- to reflect this. Her mission with Mooi is to help all of her clients look and feel their best from the inside out and her approach to nutrition is based on four key philosophies- quality over quantity, we are what we eat, less is more, and food for thought, literally. Danielle’s areas of special interest include women’s health (PCOS, Endometriosis, menopause, etc.), hormone imbalance, gut health, inflammation, and food sensitivities. Mira holds an MA in Gender and Social Justice, a field that reflects her dedication to understanding and improving the world around her. When she isn’t at work, she loves to take on a new crafting project. As a true animal lover, Mira’s favorite way to decompress is spending quality time walking her dog.

Nicole is dedicated to creating a welcoming and supportive experience for everyone who comes through the clinic. She holds a diploma in Funeral Services, which has given her a unique perspective on compassion, communication, and supporting people during vulnerable moments.
